The DevOUT Retreat 2027

October 10-15, 2027

What happened in the high desert

In October 2026, 20 LGBTQ+ Christians and allies gathered in the high desert of New Mexico for four days of honest theology, shared meals, late-night conversations, and joy. We came carrying years of being asked to shrink. We left having found something many of us had been told we’d never have: a community where our queerness and our faith were never in tension.

Friendships formed that are still holding. Wounds were named out loud, some for the first time. Healing was shared, not as a performance, but as something that happened between us, slowly and together.

We’re not done.

Going deeper in 2027

If the first retreat was about coming home to ourselves, the 2027 retreat is about what grows once we’re there.

This year, we’ll go further into the spiritual life, moving beyond reconciling faith and sexuality and into the practices, questions, and paradigms that can sustain a queer spiritual life for decades to come.

Together we’ll:

  • Grow in spiritual depth. Contemplative practice, prayer, and rhythms that root us in a God who was never afraid of us.

  • Explore new spiritual paradigms. What becomes possible when we stop asking permission from inherited frameworks and start imagining faith through a fully queer lens?

  • Engage directly with healing our trauma. Not just naming the harm of fear-based religion, but doing the careful, embodied, communal work of healing from it, held with great care by seasoned pastoral leaders.

Like last year, this will not be a conference. It will be a small, intentional, unhurried gathering, a container where you can stop performing and start breathing.
